Harry E.L."Roy" Poland, 86
Harry Eldon Leroy "Roy" Poland, 86, of Athol, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2010. Roy was born in Evans, Colorado, on March 12, 1923 to George and Barbara Poland. He loved hunting and fishing, and spent countless enjoyable days with family and friends in the great outdoors.
After his early years in Greeley, Colorado, his family moved to Payette, Idaho, where he met and eventually married Elizabeth E. "Betty" Heidelberger on March 19, 1942. They lived in Payette, Irrigon, Oregon; Hermiston, Oregon; Fernwood, Idaho; St. Maries, Idaho; Black Lake, Idaho; and finally settled in Athol in 1961. Over the years Roy was employed in various jobs including as a factory worker, farm hand, lumber mill worker, school bus driver, barber, and mine driller.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Poland; his sister, Floy Cowgill of Bend, Oregon; his 11 children, Lela and Don Page of Spirit Lake, Idaho; Lee Poland of Osborn, Idaho; Danny and San Dee Poland of Pasco, Washington; Vic and Jo Ann Poland of Trout Lake, Washington; Larry and Katie Poland of North Bend, Washington; Sue and Bill Macklin of Spirit Lake, Idaho; Tim and Raytha Poland of San Antonio, Texas; Cindy and Don Bell, of Woodbury, Minnesota; Terry Reeves of Utah; Rick and Tricia Poland of Pasco, Washington; and Tom Poland of Athol; 27 grand children and 18 great grand children.
His family would like to thank LaCrosse Care Center, Valley Vista Care Center of St. Maries and the Kootenai Medical Center ICU staff for all their wonderful care.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2010 from 5 until 7 P.M. at the Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Athol Baptist Church., Hwy 95, Athol, Idaho. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Athol Idaho. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
