Danny David Morton, Post Falls, ID., went home to be with the Lord on Sun. Jan. 24, 2010, at KMC in Coeur d'Alene. Danny was born Dec. 7, 1949 to Wilbur and Patsey Morton in Chelan, WA. He had one younger sister, Kathleen (known to Danny as Sis). During his childhood years, the family lived in Central Washington, then when he started junior high school they moved to Lewiston, ID where he graduated from high school in 1968. During his high school years Danny enjoyed running in track and being a senior class officer. He attended the University of Idaho for one year; then completed his college education at Lewis Clark State College with a degree in elementary education. Danny loved horses. As a boy he owned a Welch pony, and as a young man was the proud owner of an Appaloosa horse. While growing up, Danny spent many hours learning to hunt and fish with his dad. Danny started his teaching career in Rupert, ID for one semester, then moved to Kamiah, ID. In Kamiah, Danny taught fourth grade and coached junior high football and basketball, and coached the summer youth baseball program. The greatest joy of Danny's life was being a dad to his son Greg, born in 1972, and to his daughter Kelley, born in 1974. Danny loved to take his family camping and hunt with his brother-in-law, David. In July 1980, when he was thirty years old, Danny took a summer job at a local lumber mill to supplement his income. After being there two weeks, he was in an accident at the mill and suffered a traumatic head injury. He spent a year in a hospital in Spokane, then a year at a rehabilitation facility for head injuries in CA. There, with great determination, he learned to walk again. He always said, "I did it for my kids." From that time on, Danny was disabled and unable to work, but he continued to have a positive influence in people's lives. He was still the kind, gentle, loving person he had always been. He was a "people person", always ready with a quick smile and a kind word. Even with all his disabilities, he didn't complain, but was always concerned with how other people were feeling. In 1986 he moved to Post Falls, ID. Danny's joy was multiplied with the birth of his grandchildren. Whenever he met someone, it was not long before they knew that he was a grandpa and had six grandchildren. He was a member of the Lake City Striders, where he logged many miles at the mall, and a member of Peak Athletic Club. He formed many special friendships at these two places and was an inspiration to all. Danny spent many years as a volunteer at Ivy Court skilled nursing facility, where he was a special friend to many of the residents. Danny enjoyed doing ceramics and was always excited to give his latest creation to his family or friends. Danny is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Wendi Morton and grandchildren Skylar, Johnathan, and Megan; his daughter and son-in-law Kelley and Chad Hembree and grandchildren Alyssa, Tristan, and Madison; sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and David Morris; nephew Neil and Hannah Morris and grandnephews Seth and Sam, and grandniece Ari. He was preceded in death by his parents. Danny came to know the Lord Jesus as Savior at a young age, and spoke often of the many blessings in his life. Danny was greatly loved by his family and friends, and we will miss his special loving, considerate influence in our lives. Danny's family would like to thank the loving caregivers who have helped us over the years, and the doctors and nurses of KMC for their compassionate, loving care of Danny during his final days. A public viewing will be held at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, Wed. Jan. 27, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thurs. Jan. 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Rathdrum Bible Church. Graveside services will be held in Chelan, WA on Friday, Jan. 29 at 11:00 a.m.
