Barbara Ann Spencer, 76, passed away at home on Dec. 28, 2009 with her husband and one son at her side. She finally lost her 13 year battle with cancer. Her oldest son had been here with her until noon the previous day. Her grandsons had been with her earlier in December.
Barbara was bom March 31, 1933 in Rochester, NY. The first of four children of Richard and Lola Haddleton Former. She graduated from West High School in Rochester in 1951. Barbara married Roger Spencer in Millport, NY on August 26, 1961. They moved to San Jose, CA in 1962 where they lived until moving to Rathdrum in 1994 except for Roger's temporary assignment to Copenhagen, DK from 1975-1977.
Barbara was an active Real Estate agent in California thru the 1980's and until moving to North Idaho in 1994. She was an active volunteer with the KMC Auxiliary from 1997 to 2006.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 48 years and two sons. Dr. Dale Spencer of Colorado Springs, CO. and Mark Spencer of San Jose, CA. plus two grandsons, Justin and Ryan Spencer of Colorado Springs.
Additional survivors include her brother Gary Fortnero Englishtown, NJ, and sister Carole Dailey of Augusta, GA. Plus half- sister Linda Elliot of Farmington, NY.
She was preceded in death by her oldest brother Richard (Donny) Former.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Yates Funeral Chapel in Hayden. PLEASE no Flowers. Contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of North Idaho.
