Derrel Walker Cederblom, age 90 born in Molson, Washington on Sept. 10, 1919 and he departed on January 11, 2010 and resided in Hayden Lake, Idaho
Memorial Service: 2PM Saturday January 30, 2010 at Yates Funeral Home Hayden Lake Directions and location available at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
Cheerful and in good humor to the end, Derrel departed from a long and active life fulfilled by love of family and friends, outdoor pursuits, and accomplishments in his career in sales and sales management. Born to Effie Walker and Arthur Cederblom and raised in the tiny town of Molson in Washington's northern Cascades, he led an enterprising life through his teens, running a trap line, an ice franchise (Molson lake would freeze each winter), working as a gyppo logger, a surveyor, and harvest hand. He then spent one year at Washington State College studying forestry. He married Caroline Alice Woods, and they moved to Seattle where he worked briefly for Boeing Aircraft near the end of World War II, but then entered his life's vocation as a salesman and sales manager. His 30-year career in the Fuller Brush Company began as a salesman in Seattle and continued as a manager in Everett and Spokane. In 1975, Derrel and Caroline relocated in Hayden Lake, Idaho, where he entered a second 30-year career in real estate, first with Forrest Brown, then with Bob Schmand as a co-owner of North Idaho Realty, and in his last years (up to age 90) as a still-active realtor with Coldwell Banker. He particularly enjoyed helping new realtors develop. Through his life he was an avid outdoorsman - hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Although his house is full of mounted game trophies, his love of animals came to the fore in his last years, as he fed corn to the deer in his yard through the winter. Derrel extended himself to people with warmth and often humor, and was well-liked by practically everyone he met and knew. He is missed. Derrel was preceded in death by his daughter Lynn and his wife Caroline. He is survived by his brother Donald, sons Doug and Jerry, granddaughter Jessica, and his close friend for the last years of his life, Patricia McMahon. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 30, 2010 at Yates Funeral Home 373 E. Hayden Avenue, Hayden Lake, Idaho with a reception to follow.
