E.V. “Bill” Boughton, age 92 of Coeur d’Alene died September 29, 2006. He was born November 1, 1913 in Coeur d’Alene, ID to Eugene and Eda (Sayles) Boughton. Bill grew up in Coeur d’Alene, graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School, and attended the University of Idaho. He married Virginia Bergman on September 12, 1939 in Coeur d’Alene and they lived in the Silver Valley until returning to Coeur d’Alene in 1945. Bill worked as a district materials engineer for the State Highway Department. Throughout his life he was active in church and civic affairs. He was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church where he coached church league basketball, was a Boy Scout leader, and was active in “pairs and spares”. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, on the Jewitt House board of directors, and past president of the school board. Bill had a passion for youth and golf. He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Club and designed the back 9 holes. He worked with the Youth Diversion Program, and as a volunteer with the American Red Cross he set up swimming programs at several local lakes and communities.

Bill is survived by his children, Judy Schmand and husband, Bob of Coeur d’Alene, Thomas of Carpinteria, CA, Jacque Leonard and husband, Ed of Liberty Lake, WA, and Bill and wife, Sandi of Olympia, WA; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 2002; brothers, Don and Bob; and a sister Bernadine.

The memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene is in care of the arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Humane Society, the Jewitt House, or Hospice of North Idaho.
